Energy Transition Academy
Circular Economy & Life Cycle Thinking
International Summer School
for Students
About the
Summer School
Energy Transition Academy: Circular Economy & Life Cycle Thinking is an international summer school for students interested in energy transition, circular economy and sustainable development.
The programme consists of two parts: a one-week online module and a one-week on-site summer school at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland.
Participants will explore how renewable energy, critical raw materials, circular economy and life cycle thinking are connected, and how to design low-carbon and resource-efficient solutions for the future.
Selected international participants may receive financial support, including travel support, accommodation and subsistence support, and a scholarship.

The Idea Behind the Energy Transition Academy
Prof. Krzysztof Pikoń
Project Coordinator
The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of our time. However, it is not enough to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy technologies. We must also understand the material, environmental and social consequences of this transformation.
Photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, batteries and modern energy infrastructure require resources, critical raw materials and advanced components. That is why we need to look at energy systems from a full life cycle perspective — from raw material extraction, through production and use, to reuse, recycling and end-of-life management.
The Energy Transition Academy: Circular Economy & Life Cycle Thinking was created to help students understand these complex connections. Our goal is to show that a truly sustainable energy transition must be low-carbon, resource-efficient and circular.
